A Primary Bedroom Tour + Future Plans + Other Ramblings On Living In An Old Home

If I were to title the current state of our home it would be “sufficient”. Everything is unpacked, everything has a place, anything we needed that was essential (read: curtain rods for our bedroom) has been purchased. It’s all working and happening and we are comfortable and happy.

…however, I would not say we have reached the peak of what this home is capable of. Everything I want to do for this home is on a list. And that list is long. So long, that I usually avoid looking at it most days.

I’ve never lived in a space that is as charming as this home. I’m slowly starting to understand why so many people love buying older homes (something I was sure I would never do if you’d have asked me six months ago). I’m discovering that older homes with this much charm are so flexible when it comes to styling them. Things I’ve purchased (window treatments, rugs, furniture, etc.) just sink right into the home’s whole vibe and feel.

Let me also make one thing clear: the only reason I was ever on board with buying this house was that almost everything had been updated. It was move-in ready and it practically begged me to by it when I walked through the open house this spring. And the only reason I obliged to the house requesting me to buy it was because it was in great shape and incredibly charming. It also helped that the pervious owners loved the home as much as we do and took great care of it. It was going to take a very special scenario for me to buy a house as old as the one we’re in. And somehow we found the perfect blend of updates+character in a house.

All of this rambling to say that our bedroom is wonderful and I love it and it’s huge, but mannnnn I can’t wait to replace the light fixtures, get a bigger bed, perhaps do some fun paint or even get wild with some wallpaper (!!). Our bedroom is great and sufficient and definitely hasn’t reach it’s full style potential yet.

Basically what I’m saying is I love it and simultaneously I can’t wait to change.
