A Morning Spent At Oceanside, OR

A few weekends back we spent a Saturday morning at Oceanside. We frequent this beach so often, and have already racked up lots of family memories here. We love the huge wall that blocks most of the wind. It’s a relatively easy drive from Portland. There is always parking and it’s typically not very crowded. The town is a very sleepy little spot with not much happening, but it’s always the best place to wind down after a busy week. We had just come off of the first week of school for A and the first week of me starting a new job. So the Oregon coast was practically begging us to drive out and unplug after a chaotic week.

We have recommended this beach to lots of friends (both Portlanders and visitors) and everyone loves it. If you’re looking for lots of restaurants and shopping, though, this is not the place. It has one small little diner and a Safeway that’s in Tillamook – roughly 20 minutes away. Many people will usually stop by Tillamook Creamery on their way back into Portland (something we still have yet to do).

Whenever we head to the coast we pack a cooler of food to bring. We typically show up around 10am and leave around 1:30pm. The kids nap in the car on the drive home and everyone showers or takes a bath when we get back. C and I usually end the day with wine on the couch feeling exhausted from wrangling to kids around on the beach, but we always feeling so grateful we get to have the Oregon coast practically in our backyard.

We love you, Oceanside!
