I’ve shared in the past how we had been members of Public Goods and used their products since 2019. I loved the aesthetic of these soap bottles. I loved that they were cheaper than most soaps. And I loved the nontoxic and sustainable efforts that were being made by the company.
However, things started to shift when their website became very glitchy and their prices started to increase (without notice). The website got so bad, that two months ago when I went to fill my cart up with our monthly order, three different times it cleared out my cart when clicking ‘check out’. After seeing their prices go up, and the website continuously having issues for the last few months, I emailed their customer support team and canceled my membership immediately. Frankly, I don’t have time for glitchy websites and I was ready to try something else.
Blueland Products I Use
I first started seeing Blueland when some of my favorite people on IG were sharing about it. I decided to give their products a try. I bought the hand soap starter kit, the dish soap starter kit, and the body wash starter kit.
I love that their soaps show up dry! This way, you aren’t reusing plastic containers. It felt a little bit like a science experiment when I was mixing water with the dry soap. And it did take some time getting used to washing dishes with dry powdered soap. But so far I’ve enjoyed their soap enough to buy another 2 months supply. They also change out their soap options to include seasonal scents which I appreciate. Public Goods did not do this.
Blueland offers a lot of products that go beyond just soap, too. They have toilet cleaners and cleaning sprays and laundry detergent as well. However, I am pretty dedicated to my Force Of Nature cleaning spray and our Dropps dishwasher tablets, so I haven’t tried Blueland’s (yet).
Making The Body Wash
Below I am whipping up a batch of the body wash. It is, quite literally, two steps. Fill the bottle to the marker with room temperature water, then pour in the powdered soap. Shake it really well for about 30 seconds and voilá! You have body soap that will last for about two months!
Between refills I’ll rinse out the entire bottle since I’m using the same one again for the next batch. It’s so easy, so much less plastic, and feels silky on my skin.
If you’re looking to buy from a company that has a really sustainable option for soaps, has a great mission, and is relatively affordable, I recommend shopping here! (and their website doesn’t crash….which is just generally a good thing)
