What I’m Wearing Lately

I received the nicest DM the other day from the kindest person on IG. She was asking for essentially a round up of my wardrobe for all occasions. It just so happened that my plan for that night was to watch some good friends’ kiddos. I was going to have four glorious uninterrupted hours in my friend’s living room while their kids slept, and decided that was the perfect activity for the night.

The Categories

I broke down my closet into four categories based on scenarios that I’m most frequently getting dressed for. 1) Elevated: date night, church, an outing with friends, or anywhere I’d find myself putting together an outfit thats slightly dressier than what I normally might wear. 2) Fitness: these are shoes, jackets, sweatshirts I’m waring to take class at the studio. 3) Exploring: I combined the Oregon coast, the gorge, mount hood, and essentially any type of outdoor exploring into this category. 4) Legit Mom Style: This concept is a trend on social media and these are pieces I would grab on a normal Tuesday. I try to keep myself somewhat together and have a handful of basics in my closets that I wear on rotation.

I tried hard to list what I actually have in my closet that I really wear. If any items were sold out or no longer sold by brands I found a great alternate option. You’ll also see a lot of overlap in these categories! I wouldn’t say I have a strict capsule wardrobe, but there is a lot of overlap in my clothes. I’ll wear date night jeans to the park and don’t see anything wrong with that.

Have fun shopping, and I hope this is helpful!

1. Elevated

We get all seasons in Oregon. There is a lot of rain, but there is a lot of sun in the summer, too. With my lifestyle and the season of life I’m in, I wear a lot of basics. I don’t own anything that has prints and keep my closet mostly full of solid colors, with a mix of a few striped tops. I am drawn to clothes that can be dressed up or down.

2. Fitness

I love compression leggings. My favorites are from Lululemon and Fabletics. I get all my workout tops from Beyond Yoga. Their spacedye materiel is no joke. So soft, so easy to move in, and very durable. I do barre3 almost exclusively, so I’m barefoot when I workout. I’ll grab my favorite nike socks with sneakers and grab whatever sweatshirt is nearby to wear before and after my workouts.

3. Exploring

I used to only wear leggings on hikes and camping trips. Last summer while camping I gotten eaten alive by mosquitos while wearing leggings and realized I needed some pants that were a little thicker. I found the Dirt Pants from Topo Design and bought two. I wear these all the time! In the summer I wear the Vuori Clementine 4″ short all the time – biking, hiking, walking, or just hanging out in the backyard. I also have owned my Patagonia down sweater jacket for over 7 years, as well as the hooded sweater for 5 years. They’re the best coat I’ve found for any outdoor adventure. I grab them year-round when I’m heading out to Hood, The Gorge, or the coast.

4. Legit Mom Style

These are the outfits I’m wearing most often. And they’re a combination of everything you’ve read so far. I used to be so nervous to wear my ‘nicer’ clothes for the days where I was just going to the park or the grocery store or a play date. And then I realized this is my life, this is my work, this is what I’m up to now! So why am I not wearing my favorite clothes to all these places? I decided to stop saving them for something special and started seeing that getting to be a mom at home with my kids was special enough. I also feel so much better mentally when I’m put together and ready for the day.
