It’s been almost two years since we sold our condo in Salt Lake City and moved to Portland. I’m still proud of the transformation that took place in that small condo. When we first purchased the condo, I wasn’t even comfortable using the bathroom in the space. It was that gross. The remodel was not necessarily a demo project. We just did a massive cosmetic makeover to the entire place.
What We Updated
In the kitchen we replaced all the appliances, had new countertops installed, a new sink, pulled down some of the upper cabinets, and painted all of the cabinets. We also added subway tile to wall above the kitchen sink and replaced the track lighting with recessed lights. We added pulls the all of the kitchen cabinets as well.
In both bathrooms we had all of the tile floors and the countertops replaced. The light fixtures, sinks, faucets, and mirrors were also replaced and the cabinets were painted. We had both toilets replaced and added cabinet pulls. We did not replace the shower or the tub. They were on our list to maybe do one day, but we ended up selling the condo and moving before getting around to it.
Both bedrooms got new carpet and were painted. The living and dining areas were also painted. Light fixtures were replaced along with every door handle and hinge. We also put new flooring out on the balcony which was a game changer. When we did that, it totally transformed the space. We sat out there nearly every night in the summer of 2019.
Like I said, it was not a demo project per se, but every square inch (except for the flooring and shower/tub) was replaced or touched up. The end result was pretty impressive and satisfying. However, this all happened within ten weeks while I was in my third trimester of pregnancy. Something I would not recommend doing.
Full before and after photos of each part of the condo are below. I’m not sure I will want to do something like this ever again (famous last words, I know), but I’m always going to be proud of this project on our first home purchase and where we became parents.
