The Three Makeup Products I Use (& a product I stopped using)

I’m all about a simple makeup routine. Over the last ten years the number of products I use has slowly become less and less. I’m now only using a serum, a brow filler, and a blush. In all honesty, most days I usually skip makeup altogether. However, when I want to feel a little more pulled together, I’ll use the three products below.

Step 1: Serum

I’ve become quite the Beautycounter fanatic (however, after listening to this podcast episode I am reconsidering my entire approach to skincare…) and so I love to start with their All Bright C Serum. It gives my skin a glowy look before applying makeup.

Step 2: Cream Blush

I had some credit to Beautycounter last fall, so I picked up this cream blush in the warm terracotta shade. I love blush, and always have. It’s a little awkward putting it on as it truly is a cream, and I’m sure I should be using a blend sponge… but I dap some on my finger and lightly apply to my upper cheek bone. I find that this specific shade pairs really well with my skin tone and gives me a sun-kissed look.

I recently discovered this brand, and I really want to try it out. I love that it’s clean and would be longer lasting.

Step 3: Brow Gel

I’ve tried a lot of different brow makeup options over the years, and I’m currently using the Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel in the espresso shade. Since having babies, my hair has really thinned out and unfortunately that has also had an impact on my brow hair. This brow gel really helps define my face and makes me feel put together. While I do really like this, I have a goal to really scale back on my brow makeup even more and might make the transition to a clear gel once this runs out.

An Occasional Step 4: Slight Shimmer

I’ll use this on date night or if we’re going out somewhere special and I want to feel a little more fancy. This is meant to be used as eyeshadow, but I apply it on my outer eye on my high cheekbone. It acts essentially as a highlighter. When it runs out, I might swap it for this actual highlighter.

What I Stopped Using After More Than A Decade

Recently I stopped using mascara. Gasp. I felt that I was always “supposed” to use this even though I actually hate wearing it. Natalie Borton, who I take a lot of inspiration from when it comes to fashion and beauty, spoke to this and how she stopped and never looked back and her eyes are happier for it. I began to wonder why I feel the need to do this and decided to stop as well. And, like Natalie’s eyes, mine also have never been happier!
