A Tour Of The Kids Room

When we moved into our rental home, we updated a lot of rooms… but the kids room was not one of them. It was fine as it was and we were just trying to get settled into our new house and new city. A year later, I was pregnant and we were preparing for a new baby. I knew the kids would be sharing this small room, so the goal was to make it feel as big and open as possible.

The Updates

We painted the entire room white which helped tremendously (as you can see below). We sold the dresser and opted for a small dresser from Ikea which fit perfectly in the closet (spoiler: you don’t actually need a changing table. We use this one and it’s fine and mobile!).

We also purchased this mini crib which is on wheels. So if G needs to sleep elsewhere (which she does, a lot) we can just wheel the crib to the hallway or our room. In the photos below you can see the blank space against the wall where her crib would normally would be. We sold A’s old crib and got the Oeuf toddler bed which I love. I added these suspension shelves from Crate & Kids which went well with the neutral Scandinavian tones I had going in this room.

The room is still small and as the kids get bigger the walls feel like they are closing in. This house is temporary though, and as I’ve written about before, I’m a firm believer in actually moving into you home and making it work for you. It’s been this way for a year now, and I’m so happy we made the changes we did. It’s a bright and happy room that is small but mighty!
