On My Mind: Sun, Social Media, Spring Break Plans, & Easter Ideas

This month has been wild. We’ve had preschool, swim lessons, and soccer each week. We’ve been making some updates to our home, getting ready to have a major landscaping project done next week, and figuring out our plans for spring break. The sun in Portland is making some appearances and the flowers are juuuust about to bloom. I used to hate spring, and now that I live here I love it.

Social Media

I feel like people are doing social media breaks or detoxes or fasts all the time. I always delete my social apps on Sunday, but haven’t had the interest to re-download them all week. This is a big deal – especially with IG. But as everyone knows, when this happens I become more productive, more engaged with my kids, and more present in my life. My thoughts are filled with other things rather than what strangers are doing on the internet. If you’ve never done this before, please give it a try. Your mind and your family will thank you. I have no idea how long this will last! Could be until this weekend or it could be for a month.

Easter Prep

Some celebrate Easter to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus. Others celebrate Easter as a form of welcoming a new season. We are the former, and I am prepping for some fun crafts for Holy Week. As you might remember, I did something similar with the wisemen for Christmas. It’s a fun thing to do each week with small kids to get them to understand what is going on exactly. I was inspired by this holy week countdown concept that I think A would be really into. For Easter baskets, A is getting a hat from Rad River Co and G is getting one from Rey to Z. G is going to get some bows (my favorite shop for bows!) and I might snag some sunglasses for A. We’re keeping it pretty simple with practical gifts for the summer.

Spring Break Plans

I’m not sure if I’ve officially mentioned it here, but we have ‘grounded’ our selves for 2023. Meaning we are not going to be flying anywhere for the entire year. We are thrilled about this. Our kids are not exactly at the ages where travel is fun for them and we have a ton of projects and things we want to do around the house which adds up. Agreeing to just not go anywhere this year gave me huge relief. As someone who typically loves to travel, I took this as a sign to just stay put in Oregon and do small roadtrips throughout the year. All that to say, with spring break next week we both took time off work and will spend time hiking and going to restaurants and playing outside. I’m sooo looking forward to next week!
